Dynamic Energy Transfer Models

Energy is a disciplinary core idea and cross-cutting concept in the K-12 Framework for Science Education Next Generation Standards (NGSS). As numerous authors point out, energy model these standards emphasizes connections between systems. Using ideas to interpret or make sense of phenomena means tracking transfers across systems (including objects fields) as unfold. To support students progressing towards this goal, representations—both static dynamic—that describe flow exist. Static representations work well where unidirectional dynamics are not focus but struggle represent circular flows temporal order complex, dynamic phenomena. Existing like Theater usually qualitative, i.e., they ways that differentiate larger smaller rates transfer do provide more detailed quantitative picture. In article, we present how an existing, empirically tested, representation called Transfer Model (ETM) can be turned into quantitatively accurate using freely available 3D animation programming environment GlowScript (https://www.glowscript.org). so, first summarize central systems, ETM represents those ideas. Then, introduce explain it goes beyond limitations its counterpart accuracy adds existing representations. Lastly, discuss used integrate computational thinking physics classroom.
